Three to four hours is enough to walk the walls, wander the lanes, have a ginjinha tasting, and eat lunch. Half-day transfers (€280 round-trip) cover this comfortably. If you want to add Peniche, Nazaré, or an extended lunch, budget a full day (6-8 hours).
The town can get very crowded during the Medieval Fair (July), the International Chocolate Festival (late April-early May), and the Christmas Market (December). These are magical if you like events, but cobblestones and narrow alleys get tight. Tuesday-Thursday mornings year-round are the quietest.
The old town is entirely cobblestones and sloped streets — challenging for wheelchairs and not easy for those with walking difficulties. The castle walls have no handrails and should be avoided if balance is a concern. We can get you to the main square and a flat-access restaurant, but be realistic about what you'll see on foot.
